Parent/Carer Notices for all Year Groups
22nd May 2026
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I have exciting news that a record-breaking eleven of our students have been selected to represent Ouse Valley at the Sussex Schools Championships! It is a huge achievement to make the selection. Whilst some of these students are members of local athletics clubs, some are purely school athletes which makes this an even bigger achievement. Very best of luck to:
Ellie T- 200m; Florence PJ- 1500m; Grace T- 800m; Max F- 800m; Finley C- High Jump; William H- Triple Jump; Ollie L- Triple Jump; Jenson B- Shot; Max T- Shot; Otto DB- 800m; Dylan C- Reserve Long Jump
Excellent work too by Year 11 and Year 13 students on completing Week 2 of the main exam period; they have been impressive in their focus and attitude, and are engaging well with all the additional support that is available. Half-term should definitely be time to have a rest, as well as continuing with their preparation for the second phase of the exams when we come back.
I just wanted to thank the year 11 teachers for all the extra sessions they’re putting on, in their own time, for the students. I know they are all so busy already, so giving up Sunday evenings, early mornings and their half term is amazing of them. Thank you for your time and support. (Year 11 Parent)
It’s been a genuinely positive and inspiring term, finished off this evening with the Year 13 Prom!
I wish you all a good break, and look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 1st June.
Very best wishes
Sara Marshallsay

Term 6

We are looking forward to welcoming students back in good time to start their first lesson at 9.00am.
Uniform expectations - Miss Brown
As we approach the upcoming holiday, we would like to thank you for your continued support in upholding the high expectations that allow our students to focus fully on their learning.
To maintain our professional and aspirational environment, please use the break to ensure your child is fully prepared for a successful return to the College. We kindly remind you that all students must be in full, correct uniform, which includes their College blazer and black leather-look shoes. Additionally, please ensure that students adhere to our standards regarding appearance: only one set of ear studs is permitted, facial piercings are not allowed, hair must be a natural colour, and nails should remain natural without polish or acrylics.
Please also remember that students must arrive at school in their regular uniform for Period 1, even if they have PE or Dance, and they will then get changed with the rest of their class. The half term holiday is an ideal time to replenish essential equipment or replace any uniform items that no longer fit. Starting the new term with the correct kit ensures that every second counts for every student.
To continue upholding our high expectations, please be aware that from the beginning of Term 6 onwards, all staff will be rigorously enforcing our school uniform policy. Currently, our SLT and Directors of Year issue detentions for uniform infractions, and this practice will continue unchanged.
However, as a new addition to this procedure, teachers will now use Arbor to log any instances of students wearing incorrect uniform. We kindly advise that students check their Arbor accounts regularly, as accumulating three logs will automatically generate a break time detention. If a student arrives at school without a tie, they will be required to retrieve a replacement from reception in exchange for their mobile phone, which will be safely held until the tie is returned. Additionally, students arriving in incorrect uniform, which cannot be amended, may be placed in an alternative venue until the issue is fully resolved. For a more detailed guide please refer to the image below.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation and partnership in ensuring our students arrive looking smart, representing the College with pride.

New resources about online hate and misogyny on the ‘Kids online safety’ website
Together with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), we have published new resources on the ‘Kids online safety’ website to help parents and carers understand and get support dealing with online misogyny.
This new section is designed to help families and give them more confidence in talking to their children about what they’re doing and experiencing online.
The updated content includes:
- what misogyny is
- why you should talk to your child about misogyny
- spotting the signs of misogyny
- how you can support your son or daughter
We continue to link to trusted charities and expert organisations where families can find specialist support, including helplines and further advice.
Please share the updated Kids online safety website with parents and carers
Summer Term PE and Dance Kit Reminder for Year 7 to Year 10 - reminder
As we move into the warmer months, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind parents and carers of the appropriate PE and Dance kit for the summer term, in line with our PE and Dance kit expectations and Total Participation Policy.
Suitable summer PE and Dance kit includes:
- Uckfield College PE polo shirt
- GCSE PE / CNat Sport polo shirt (for relevant students)
- GCSE Dance t-shirt is only to be worn for Dance lessons
- Uckfield College shorts or skort
- Alternatively, plain black unbranded shorts of a suitable length or leggings are permitted
Please note:
Cycling shorts or branded shorts of a different colour are not considered suitable for PE or Dance lessons and do not meet our uniform expectations.
As temperatures rise, we also strongly recommend that all students bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated during PE and Dance lessons. This is of course recommended practice for the school day in general but particularly poignant when considering our subject areas.
Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring all students are prepared to participate fully and safely in every lesson.
Changes to Free School Meals
As you are probably aware, the Free School Meals eligibility criteria will change from 1 September 2026, and the transitional protection rules will cease at the end of this academic year.
All families in receipt of Universal Credit will now qualify for free school meals. However, there will be two categories of benefits-based free school meals:
- Targeted FSM– This will continue to be based on the existing threshold and will cover pupils from households receiving Universal Credit with annual household earnings of £7,400 or less. In addition to receiving free meals, pupils eligible for targeted FSM will attract pupil premium and other disadvantage funding for their schools.
- Expanded FSM– This is a new category covering pupils who do not qualify for targeted FSM, but who are in households receiving Universal Credit. Pupils eligible for expanded FSM will receive meals only and will not qualify for pupil premium or other associated benefits.
What do I need to do?
My child currently receives Free School Meals and is in Year 7 to 10 and Year 12
From 1st June East Sussex County Council will be checking the eligibility of all students against the new criteria. ESCC will only contact parents if they no longer meet the criteria or to check personal data so please keep a look out for e-mails from them. Please DO NOT reapply as this will delay the process.
My child currently receives Free School Meals and is in Year 11
Your student’s Free School Meal eligibility will be cancelled at the end of the school year. If your student is rejoining our 6th form, please reapply using this link. If your student is joining another +16 education setting, please contact the admissions department of that school or college for information.
My child does not currently receive Free School Meals
If you believe your student may be eligible for Free School Meals under the Expanded FSM programme, please apply using this link. from 1st June. Please DO NOT apply before then as your application will be rejected.
If you believe your student may be eligible for Free School Meals under the Targeted FSM programme, please apply using this link. at any time.

Art of the Week
Take a look at these incredible landscapes created by 8U.
We challenged Year 8 to dive into the worlds of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Abstract Art—and wow, did they deliver! From sweeping Monet-inspired brushstrokes and bold, Van Gogh-style textures to brilliant, expressive abstract shapes, every single piece is unique.
Photo of the Week
This week’s Photo of the Week is a celebration of all of the excellent work that has been made during the Year 10 Photography trial exams this week. Students spent the day taking photographs and then experimenting with what they could do with their images, with some absolutely fantastic results.
Well done for all of your hard work, Year 10!

Year 11 Exams - Mr Webster
I am writing to express how immensely proud and pleased we are with the outstanding attitude and application shown by our students so far during this exam season. Their dedication, resilience, and focus has been superb.
As we move further into the exam timetable, I want to emphasise a vital message regarding your child’s ongoing preparation. We are continuing to deliver full, high-quality teaching during all regularly timetabled lessons. This means that whenever students do not have an exam, they are expected to be in their normal lessons. Being present in the classroom places them directly in front of their expert teachers, who are providing crucial final guidance, targeted revision, and key pieces of information.
In fact, over the past two weeks, our students have repeatedly reported that these final lessons have been absolutely invaluable. On a number of occasions, the specific topics and tips covered by teachers in those final moments have directly featured in the exam papers later that day or week. Missing these sessions means missing out on a significant advantage.
On Friday 5th June, following the English Language exam, students will be able to use their identification cards to enable them to leave the site when they do not have an exam or have a lesson in a subject where the exams have already taken place. However, there will still be lessons taking place for subjects where there are further exams and students should prioritise attending these.
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring your child maintains excellent attendance during this important time.
May Half Term 2026: Independent and Targeted Masterclass Sessions - Mr Webster - reminder
Independent Study Sessions
Following the success of our Easter School provision, we are pleased to again offer our Year 11 students a dedicated, quiet space to focus on their revision. We recognise that revising at home can be challenging due to distractions, and not every student has access to a quiet workspace.
Our Independent Study Sessions will be held in the SFSA (Sixth Form Study Area) during the May Half Term (Tuesday- Friday) and be overseen by members of the Leadership Team. These sessions provide a familiar, academic environment to help students maximise their productivity in preparation for their remaining exams.
Sessions will run daily from Tuesday 26th May to Friday 29th May:
- Session 1: 9:30 am – 11:00 am
- Break: 11:00 am – 11:30 am
- Session 2: 11:30 am – 1:00 pm
Students are welcome to attend as many sessions as they like and may book both slots each day to complete a full morning of study.
To ensure a high-quality study environment for everyone, the following will apply:
- Independent Work: These are supervised quiet study sessions. Students must arrive on time with their own revision materials and the necessary equipment. (Staff across all subjects have already provided students with comprehensive revision guides and resources to use).
- Focus: To ensure full concentration, mobile phones and/or headphones are not permitted during study sessions.
- Dress Code: School uniform is not required; however, students must be dressed appropriately for a school environment.
- Booking: Places must be reserved in advance via our Google Form
We strongly encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity to maintain momentum, positivity and focus.
Masterclass Sessions
Alongside the Independent Study Sessions, subject specific Masterclass sessions will be running, delivered by subjects teachers. These sessions will be by invitation and will be tailored to the specific areas of development that those invited need to focus on. The sessions will run at the same time as Independent Study sessions. If your child is invited to a targeted, subject specific Masterclass session, this should take priority over attending Independent Study. Teachers will invite students to these sessions and inform them of any equipment that they will need, in advance.
If you know in advance that your child will be unable to attend any of their targeted sessions, it is important that you let staff know as soon as possible. This will allow us to offer the space to another student who could benefit.
Many thanks for your ongoing support.

If you find you have any of the following items in good condition that are no longer needed, we would be incredibly grateful for your donations:
PE T-shirts
Skorts and Shorts
Football Boots
Trainers
Your generosity helps ensure that all students can participate fully in sports and physical education.
Where to drop off? Please send any washed items into school with your child to be dropped off directly at the PE Office.
Thank you for your continued support!

Important information from Mr Prichard
As our Year 11 students approach the final stages of their GCSE examinations, I wanted to take a moment to share how incredibly proud I am of every single one of them. Their dedication, resilience, and commitment to their studies have been truly commendable, and I know they are all striving to do their very best. We wish them every success in their exams and look forward to celebrating all they have achieved.
Students are expected in school full time up until 5th June and we kindly ask that students continue to wear College uniform correctly for all exams. Maintaining uniform standards supports a focused and respectful exam environment. From the 5th June students will have finished a number of subjects, so will need more flexibility. Students will not need to be in school for the lessons of subjects that they have finished, however they must still attend lessons in subjects they haven’t finished.
Year 11 students will be provided with a card that allows them to electronically register in and out of school when they don’t have scheduled lessons to attend. It is absolutely essential that all students register so that we know where they are at all times during the school day. This is so that we can keep all our students safe e.g in the event of a fire. Students will need to wait patiently to use the electronic registration. If a student does not register we may remove the option of study leave from that student. The card will not have a photo or lanyard so please speak to your child about how they can keep it safe so they are able to use this system successfully.
Students who wish to study off site from the 5th of June will need parental permission. It is therefore crucial that you complete this Google Form to provide permission for your child to be on flexible study leave. Students without this consent will not be allowed off site. Students who wish to study in school lessons may do so in the sixth form study area but should still use the electronic system to register.
I am also excited to confirm the details of this year’s Prom, which will be a wonderful celebration of their 5 years at school:
Date: Thursday 25th June 2026
Venue: AMEX Stadium, Brighton
Arrival time: from 17:45pm
Collection time: 23:00pm
The evening will include a formal two-course meal, a DJ-led disco, and a photobooth for capturing memories of this special event. If your child is planning to arrive in an unusual vehicle (e.g., limousine, vintage car, tractor, etc.), please let us know in advance so we can inform the AMEX and ensure smooth arrangements for arrivals. The final deadline date for payment is: Monday 1st June 2026. All payments are made through parentpay.
In addition to prom, please make note of the following upcoming dates:
- Year 11 Celebration Evening (by invitation only): Thursday 18th June 2026 18:00 – 19:00
- Year 11 Graduation Assembly (students only): Friday 19th June 14:00. Students will arrive from 13:45. School uniform is not required but we do insist that the students are appropriately dressed to be on college site.
Finally, we always mark the end of the Year 11 journey with a Yearbook. This can be purchased directly with our supplier through the following link allyearbooks.co.uk/buy/25213 with a deadline also set for Monday 1st June 2026.
Thank you for your continued support throughout this important year. We look forward to sharing these final moments with your children and celebrating their many accomplishments.

Year 12 Progression exams: 15th - 22nd June
The Year 12 Progression exams are taking place between the 15th and 22nd June.
All Year 12 students will be off timetable for the whole of this period, including those on vocational courses (e.g. BTECs). This will enable all students to be focussed on the exams. These exams will be very important in guiding predicted grades for UCAS and will also be used to confirm that students are able to progress to the second year of their courses.
The curriculum specifications launched in 2016 have terminal examinations that are much harder and the content of the second year of the courses is more difficult than the first year. As such it is vital that we ascertain a clear view of every students’ likelihood of success next summer before they start Year 13. Students must achieve a minimum of a D grade in A level courses and a Merit in Vocational courses. It goes without saying that students should be preparing for these exams appropriately and methodically. Teachers will have given students feedback on their March exams and will be helping them prepare for these exams. Exam timetables have already been shared with students and we would expect all students to be revising for these exams from now onwards. Please encourage them to do so.
Thorpe Park and Enrichment Week Activities - Monday 6th to Friday 10th July - deadline extended to Wednesday 3rd June on ParentPay
During Enrichment Week, Year 12 will be taking part in a range of activities that will help them get ahead before they start their final year in September. The first day will be focused around preparing for MUNGA, our Model United Nations General Assembly day that takes place on the Tuesday of that week. There will be two days of careers and UCAS preparation where students will be given guidance to write their first draft personal statements or work on their careers research and CVs. There will also be a Year 12 Celebration Evening on Thursday 9th July.
After what we are sure will be a highly productive and hard-working week, we would like to reward students by taking them on a group trip to Thorpe Park on Friday 10th July. We hope this will be a fun day and a celebration of what they have achieved this year.
